La grandeza de México-Tenochtiltan

I don't know where or how I learned something that impressed me a lot: the most powerful, and dramatic encounter between human groups ever, happened right here in Mexico. The meeting between two very different civilizations, between two strangers, "el encuentro entre dos mundos". The Europeans and "Mexicas", either one or another knew so little about the other side, what to expect, how to fight.

To be in the heart of Mexico city, where the ruins of Templo Mayor are, is for me, to recognize what my country is, where it stands, because what we are now, is a product of that episode. That very part of Mexico has been a witness of every thing since the time of La conquista, even before, with the rising of the city of Tenochtitlan.

When the spaniards arrived in theTenochtitlan, they saw with marvelous eyes, the perfection of the place, an island over one lake, the canals that made possible comunication, the buildings, the organization, the vitality of the people.

Now we have the ruins of the most important temple for the Aztecs and many remains remember us how they lived, their gods, the way of make war, the way of keeping their religion, what they thought about the dead and death, and issue so important for them.

It was tuesday, two days after election, the day was cloudy as many of summer days are, because it is rany season in Mexico, down town had its usual activities and we spent the day as a family with sister-in-law Gaby. Probably Pepe was a little unpatient because at that time Portugal played against Francia, but behaved well anyway.

The girls were scared with the place, the symbols of death every where, and the ruins of the temple that was a pyramid made out of layers, kind of complicated for them to undertstand.
Still interesting things, stone snakes, pre-hispanic jewels, decorative objects and so, made the tour fine for the girls after all.
